Smooth/Standard Ballroom Styles We Teach
We teach the 5 core Ballroom styles from the international competitive syllabus:
-
Elegant, smooth, and one of the easiest ballroom styles to begin with. The Waltz is often the dance people imagine when they think of classic ballroom dancing, and it’s a beautiful dance for weddings, formal events, and social occasions.
-
Faster and more dynamic than the classic Waltz, the Viennese Waltz is known for its turns, flowing movement, and elegant speed across the floor. It requires more control and stamina than the Waltz.
-
Elegant, flowing, slightly more upbeat. One of the most versatile social dances you can learn. Works beautifully with jazz standards, classic pop, and cocktail party music. Great for learning leading and following.
-
Sharp, dramatic, powerful. Ballroom Tango features staccato movements, a strong frame, and an intensity that makes it one of the most visually striking styles we teach. At our Tango dance lessons in Marbella, you’ll work on musical expression, character, and the details that make this style feel so distinctive.
-
Light, fast, and full of energy. Quickstep combines quick footwork with smooth movement. It’s one of the more athletic ballroom styles, making it a great choice for dancers who enjoy speed, rhythm, and a real challenge.

What Is Ballroom Dancing?
Ballroom dancing includes a group of elegant partner dances where two people move together with rhythm, posture, timing, and connection. One partner leads, the other follows, and both learn how to move in sync with the music.
Smooth/Standard styles focus on smooth movement, strong posture, and elegant travel across the floor. The partners usually stay in a closed position, which helps create the classic ballroom look people often associate with weddings, galas, and formal events.
Smooth/Standard Styles
Rhythm/Latin Styles
Rhythm/Latin styles are more expressive, rhythmic, and energetic. They use more open frame, sharper timing, and greater body movement than Standard styles. At our Latin dance lessons in Marbella, you’ll learn how each style feels in the body, not just where to place your feet. We work on rhythm, coordination, partner connection, and confidence

Frequently Asked Questions
-
Ballroom dancing is beginner-friendly when it’s taught step by step. Waltz and Foxtrot are great styles to start with because the movements are smooth, the tempo is comfortable, and the basic patterns are easy to understand.
Most new students start feeling more confident with the basics within the first month, especially when they attend lessons consistently.
-
No, you don’t need a partner to start.
In private lessons, your instructor will be your partner. In group classes, students rotate partners. Such an approach helps you become more comfortable dancing with different people and improves your ability to lead or follow in real social settings.
-
The number of lessons depends on your goals. For social confidence at weddings, parties, galas, or formal events, you can notice real progress within 6 to 10 sessions.
Learning for competition, performance, or advanced technique takes more time and consistency. In that case, your instructor will create a clear timeline based on your starting point, schedule, and goals. With regular training, we’ve taken students from complete beginners to competition-ready within 12 months.
-
Yes. We train students for amateur and professional ballroom competitions. Our instructors bring WDC and WDO licenses, Campionato del Mundo experience, and a background in coaching World Dance Finalists and Champions.
That means you’ll receive proper technical training at any level.
-
Wear comfortable clothing that allows you to move freely.
For women, we recommend leggings, trousers, a skirt, or a dress. For men, comfortable trousers or smart casual clothing will work well.
For shoes, choose something secure and comfortable with a smooth sole. Low heels or dress shoes. Try to avoid heavy rubber-soled sneakers, as they can stick to the floor and make turns harder.
